Sevierville, TN- Just a few miles north east of Chattanooga we were also hosting our 16u and 18u event held at Maryville College, Smokies Park, and some of the Knoxville area high schools. The 16u division consisted of 22 teams and featured some premier young talent and some very close and competitive games. Friday night’sfinal game was battle between 2 solid East TN teams as the Tri Cities Titans took down RBI Redstitch 5-4.Then the tight game streak continued on into Saturday morning where Sting Baseball squeaked past Knoxville Dash 2-1 at Knoxville Catholic, and also Team 360 Hawks narrowly escaped with a 5-4 win over at Maryville College.
After bracket play, there were only 4 teams that escaped at 2-0: Diamond Simcox, TN Blue Sox, Sting Baseball, & RBI Tri Cities. However, only 2 of the 4 were able to advance to the semis as RBI Red Stitch blanked Diamond Simcox 10-0, and the Knoxville Stars took down TN Blue Sox. So this brought us a championship game held at Maryville College where the Knoxville Stars took a lead and were able to hold it and fend off RBI Tri Cities 6-4 and win the 16u championship!
Friday night also marked the start of the 18u tournament, which included a division of 21 teams ready to compete and showcase all their talents. Friday’s games consisted of a heavy amount of lopsided matches with the exception of Appy Storm vs RBI Red Stitch where the Storm came out winners 8-6. Another notable game from pool play was a match-up at Smokies Stadium between the Knoxville Stars and Hit House. This was a duel to the end as Hit House kept the lead and took the win 4-3. Hit House would stay hot on into Sunday until they ran into the Knoxville Stars Blue in the semifinals where they fell in a close one 2-1. The Riverdogs and Cross Hit both won quarterfinal games to find each other in the semis where Cross Hit breezed through to a 12-2 victory, and then turned in a shut out win in the championship to beat the Knoxville Stars Blue.
